When it comes to backup drives, I’m very black-and-white. Either a drive is 100% reliable or is worthless — that is to say, I would rather not have any backup than to have unreliable, undependable backup. After my own extensive research and due diligence about consumer-grade backup solutions, I decided to buy the Western Digital Elements 1TB.
The Western Digital Elements 1TB external hard drive is the no-frills, hassle-free external hard drive techies dream about. It has no fancy metal casing that’s just going to add dollars to the price. Instead, what Western Digital offers is a minimalist, reliable device. The hard drive doesn’t have any annoying pre-installed backup software that can’t be turned off or uninstalled. Instead the plug-and-play ease allows you to start backing up your content in seconds after taking it out of the box.
First, the drive is good to look at. The truth on this drive is sleek and small. The “activity” light is rather unintrusive yet simple enough to view. Secondly, this drive is incredibly, very quiet. I’ve transferred thousands and thousands of files and a huge selection of Gbs importance of data and i also honestly have to go check it is really transferring the files owing to normal room noise, this drive is indiscernible.
When it is not linked to your working computer, or when the computer is off possibly standby, the hard disk draws 0 watts. If your computer is on, however, not accessing the disk, it draws 4 watts. When actively transferring files, it draws 6-7 watts. This explains why the truth is obviously cool. It automatically spins down the hard disk when inactive temporarly. This really does result in a delay while you access it, but it is just a few seconds.

* It runs on the mini USB connector, yet it is supplied with the drive
* No included software/firmware that you must fight with to delete
* No problems attaching to computer or being recognized by OS
