Maxtor External Hard Drive Drivers

Build Your Dream Machine With Vista   by Kok Choon

If you are going to build a new computer from scratch, 2 things you must not save on your budget – The memory and a decent 3D video card. In this article I will show you my recommendation list of hardware and tools.

Hardware recommended:

1. Any modern processor.
2. At least 2 GB of RAM, recommended 4 GB.
3. Preferable 2 hard disk or more, so you can configure to run RAID! If you have more budget, get the hybrid or solid state hard drive.
4. Get a motherboard that support RAID or install Vista Ultimate or Vista Business. (Both editions with Strip Volume support)
5. Any 3D Graphic card with a price $70 or more.
6. Any keyboard and mouse.
7. DVD / CD ROM AND Writer.
8. 2 Normal Speaker or the surround system!
9. Other accessories such as web camera and external backup drive.

Software and tools recommended:

1. PerfectDisk or any hard disk imaging software such as DiscWizard (FREE) from Seagate. DiscWizard only supports Seagate or Maxtor hard drive.
2. Microsoft Virtual PC for testing and practicing the tuning.
3. vLite to create a stripped version of Vista Installer.
3. Vista Home Premium / Vista Business / Vista Ultimate. Vista Home Basic is too “Basic”, not recommended.
4. “Unleash Vista Power Advance Guide” for advance tuning.

Step #1 – Create stripped Vista Installer.

First thing, install vLite on any other working computer, insert your Vista CD and copy everything into the computer. Use vLite to strip everything, especially excessive drivers and services. 2 particular important services must be removed – SuperFetch and ReadyBoost. If you already have the separate drivers’ disk for all your hardware, you can remove them.

Do not remove any “hardware support”, unless you do not need them in the future. Burn the compiled ISO file / files into CD or DVD, then start the installation.

Step #2 – Install Vista.
Vista installation should be straight forward; After installed, remember to use auto logon and remove User Account Control (UAC).

Step #3 – Install Drivers and create the hard disk image.
Install your hardware drivers, then backup your hard disk image with imaging software – PerfectDisk.

Step #5 – Disable cache and background services.
Disable any unwanted background services, especially Superfetch and ReadyBoost. You don’t need them if you have enough RAMs.

Step #6 – Fine tune your computer settings.
Follow the step by step tuning guide and fine tune your computer. Repeat the tuning process as instructed until you get the best result.

Congratulation! You just built yourself the best computer with Vista. Remember to backup your “Perfect” settings before installing any application!
